ELECTRICAL POWER

Alectra Utilities is one of the largest municipally-owned electricity distribution companies in North America and provides electricity and related utility services to more than 175,000 residential and commercial customers in Hamilton

Hydro One Networks Inc. is wholly owned by the Government of Ontario and is responsible for 97 per cent of Ontario’s electricity transmission system and about one-third of the province’s distribution system. The 28,600 kilometre high voltage system transmits electricity from generating facilities across the province to local distribution companies, municipal utilities and large industrial consumers. It delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario, including areas within the City of Hamilton.

NATURAL GAS

Natural gas is available throughout Hamilton and is a major source for fuel and heating for both the residential and commercial markets. Service is now provided by three companies.

WATER & WASTEWATER

Hamilton’s Water and Wastewater Division is responsible for Hamilton’s municipal water supply and treatment. Lake Ontario is used as the main source of water supply for Hamilton.

HAMILTON COMMUNITY ENERGY (HCE)

Hamilton Community Energy (HCE) has established itself as a “solution provider” for building owners in the downtown core – they have the expertise to retrofit existing buildings to accommodate new district heating and co-generation systems. This role has expanded to include; project development, management, and operation of initiatives that are focused on the efficient and effective delivery of energy services. HCE has been targeting existing institutional, commercial, multi-residential & industrial facilities. More recently, they have been successful working with greenfield developments to deliver hybrid district energy solutions.
