The City and area includes a tremendous number of boutiques and small shops selling everything from antiques to zippers. We’re also fortunate to have a great number of power centres, malls, department stores and off-price retailers that offer a vast selection of goods from designers and other major name brands. Hamilton also has a number of business improvement areas and main street corridors that offer eclectic or niche items that can't be found in many stores. James Street North, for example, is quickly gaining international attention as an emerging art hub, but here you can also buy imported olive oils, high-end coffee makers, Chinese vegetables and confirmation dresses in this eclectic neighbourhood. Westdale offers a string of small independents and you can buy the latest shoes or gowns, pick up some chocolates for a special occasion, select just the right card or treat yourself to the latest bestseller. Dundas also offers one-street shopping. Several upscale food purveyors have joined famous Picone’s Food Market, making this a Saturday morning destination for Dundas residents. Several stores specialize in furniture and home accessories and boutiques offer fashionable clothes for men and women. Locke Street in Hamilton has become known for antiques but it also boasts one of the highest concentrations of hair salons in the city. Also on Locke are eclectic stores specializing in musical instruments, jewellery and home accessories. And if you have the creative touch and want to create something from scratch, Ottawa Street is Hamilton's leading garment district that is quickly developing into a major cultures stop, with cafes, restaurants, antiques and other services that is pedestrian-friendly.
